CALIFORNIAN NATIVES

LEAD IN LAWLESSNESS.

SAN DIEGO, Calif., April 5. Publication of police records for the past six months reveal that for eign-born residents are more lawabiding than natives. For example, of the 383 persons arrested here on felony charges from July, 1935, to Fe - ruary, 1936, 355 were native-born citizens. Only 28 were foreigners. “Although a large percentage ot the city’s population is made up of Mexicans, Portuguese, Italians, Greeks and other nationalities, they are generally law-abiding citizens, Police Chief George Sears said. The statistics reveal that four times as many native born were charged with robbery and burglary than were for-eign-born persons, and native whites arrested for theft numbered more than twice the foreign-born on the same charge. Of 27 different offences, the foreigners showed an increase in number of arrests in only two, assault and liquor law violations.
