In the absence of authority on the question. Judge Ostler decided, to-day. that notwithstanding the failure of a wife to give reasons for non-compliance with an order for restitution of conjugal rights, she is entitled to an opportunity for defence, if a petition for divorce is tiled.

\ WANGANUI. July 1
Henry Hooker, 79, retired blacksmith, was found late last night, at the corner of Guyton Street, seriously injured, with a fractured skull and two broken ankles. It is presumed that he was knocked down by a motor car while on the way home from a 'billiard saloon, where he assisted his son, who is the proprietor. The hospital reports this .afternoon, that Hooker is in a dying condition.
