HOKITIKA NOTES

[OVB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, June 20. ' Constable Drummond, of Kanieri, who is on transfer to Oxford, was the guest of the Hokitika branch of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club last evening. Mr Drummond was the president and founder of the branch. There was a full attendance of members, who occupied the first part of the evening in relating their experiences of mountaineering and the exhibiting of interesting photographs taken on various expeditions. Songs| were sung by Messrs F. Curtain and] M. Davidson. Supper . was provided] by the members, and various mem-' bers made reference to the departure of their guest and the regret felt by

them. The Rev. Father O'Gorman, on behalf of the branch, presented Mr, Drummond with an cversharp pencil, and a fountain pen. He mentioned the work of the recipient in founding the Inanch. his efforts in fostering mountaineering, and also organising search parties and expeditions. His experience and advice to the younger mem-! I.eis had been very valuable. Con-j stable Dri’inmond, in reply, thanked: .the members for their gift and appre-l c.iative remarks. He referred to the! comradeship in mountaineering, and i tendered some useful advice. Fatherj O’Gorman also asked Mr Drummond'; to accept an autographed serviette I with, all the signatures of the club' members, and also a piece of silver ’ plate for Mrs Drummond.
