A WOMAN FINED

It was alleged at Sheffield policecourt yesterday that -“grave domestic sorrow” had been caused to a newly-marrie-d couple by a woman’s telephone calls to the bride. Eva Davis, 29, of Adelaide-place. Sheffield, was fined 40/- for making persistent telepohne calls without reasonable cause, for the purpose of causing annoyance. She denied the charges. Mrs. Grace- Roberts. 33, of Fileystreet. Sheffield, saiddhat before her marriage last August her husband, a motor engineer, had given driving lessons to Miss Davis. The calls were started two days after the marriage, and there had been, at least 150. Mrs. Roberts added: “She said my husband only married me as a housekeeper and that he had married me out of pity. She frequently stated that he had been unfaithful to me.” I Mr. J. G. Chambers, prosecuting, said that on one occasion there was an attempt at blackmail, Miss Davis demanding £5O.
