Luciano, who. with eight associates, was found guilty by a jury on . 62 counts of compulsory prostitution, has been sentenced to terms of thirty and fifty years’ imprisonment. Others' of his convicted associates received similar heavy terms. CABLE-WIRELESS. LONDON. June 19. Mr J. C. Denison-Pender, one of the directors has resigned from the Cables and Wireless Combine, Limited. it is believed that it is owing to a disagreement regarding policy. The “Daily Telegraph” says that another director may also resign. The “Daily Mail’s” city editor says: Mr Denison-Pender’s resignation coincides with rumours of widespread changes in Imperial communications. It is suggested that the Government is likely to take over an interest in the Cable Wireless Combine for strategical purposes, appointing a nominee director on the Board. LATER. Mr Denison Pender issued a statement that he had no difference with the Board of Cables, Wireless, which had accepted his suggestions for the reorganisation of the company. MURDERER’S ESTATE. SEOUL, June 19. A motor launch, packed with 120 Koreans, bound for Kyushube, to be smuggled into Japan in defiance of the immigration laws, capsized in heavy seas. A hundred were drowned. LABOUR CONFERENCE. GENEVA. June 19. The international Labour conference by a preliminary vote of 67 to 36 adopted the proposed convention of the forty hour week in the iron and steel industry, but the figures suggest the necessary two-thirds majority is unlikely in the final decision vote. The conference decided by 59 votes to 26 to hold a conference of Government, employers, and workers’ delegates regarding the reduction in hours of textile workers before 19'37. The conference also decided by 71 votes to 29 that the forty hour week for textile workers be included in the agenda of the 1937 conference.
