The “News-Chronicle’s” Berlin correspondent says: Herr Hitler is formulating Germany’s demands for colonial territory at a special meeting of the Reichstag, the date of which will be fixed this week. It is believed that he will demand the return of Togoland, and the Cameroons, and former German East Africa, but not South West Africa, because “the German Government is anxious to maintain friendly relations with the South African Government.” The German press

is now allowed freely to discuss the colonial issue. _ ■ HELIGOLAND FORTIFIED. LONDON, June 17. The “Daily Telegraph’s naval correspondent says: Germany is refortifying the island of Heligoland. That island was permanently demilitarised under the Versailles Treaty. The work is reported to be proceeding with the utmost energy. A new harbour is being constructed. Powerful batteries are being installed. The correspondent adds: Other German North Sea islands being re-fortified and heavily armed, are Borkum and Wanderoog (which guard the entrance to the Wilhelmshaven Naval Base). The island of Norderney and Sylt are also reported to be strongly defended.
