AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN
WOOL SALES ATTENDANCE
fBY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]
SYDNEY, June 15.
At the present wool sale, it is only
the clearing up of the series of sales. The Japanese were present and followed the market as keenly as though they were buying. They would have taken a large proportion of td-day’s offerings, which suited their requirements, but having already bought heavily this season, they are expected to refrain from buying for the present. More importance is attached to the Japanese attitude at the Brisbane sales next week, when the news season’s wools will be offering.
NEGOTIATIONS RE-OPENED
CANBERRA. June 15.
Sir Henry Gullett, Minister in charge of Trade Treaties, stated today, that trade negotiations had been re-opened with Japan, through M. Mural, Consul General at Sydney, and it is expected that immediate retaliation by Japan against the recently imposed textile duties will be avoided. Sir H. Gullett pointed out that Japan was awakening to the fact the Australian new tariff was not nearly so harmful as anticipated, and there is now a much better understanding as the result of the two-way communications since the publication of tne schedule. JAPANESE STOCKS. TOKIO, June 15.
