BANK CLERK ARRESTED
LARGE SUM MISSING

WANGANUI, June 15.
On Friday last, it was discoered that the sum of £7,500 was missing from the strong-room of the Bank of New Zealand, at Mangaweka, and a complaint was lodged with the police. Detective-Sergeant J. K. Robertson and Detective James Murray, both of Wanganui, made enquiries. To-day, Maurice Edward Alexander, aged 32 years, single, employed as a teller in the bank, was arrested, and he appeared before a Justice of the Peace, charged that, on June 10, being a servant in the employ of the bank, he did steal the sum of £7,500, the property of the bank.
The accused was remanded to appear at Wanganui to-morrow. It is understood that the whole of the money has been recovered.

WANGANUI, June 16.
Maurice Edward Alexander, bank teller, Mangaweka, 32, who was charged yesterday, at Mangaweka with the theft of £7.500 the property of the Bank of New Zealand, appeared on remand this morning, before Mr. Salmon. He was further remanded to Taihape, till June 19. Mr. W. C. Bainbridge asked for bail, stating that the whole of the money had been handed back by accused.
The police offered no objections, and the Magistrate said, under the circumstances he would fix it self £2OO, and a similar surety, accused to report daily to the police at Mangaweka.
