COBDEN DEFEAT MAWHERA

Local competition matches were continued at the Recreation Ground on Saturday, when two interesting games were witnessed. rhe early game saw a great tussle between Cobden and Mawhera, with the halftime scores level, but Cobden eventually wore down Mawhera, to win by three goals to one. In the other match, Wesley were leading Pacific at the change over, but were unable to hold the competition leaders, who finally won by five goals to two. COBDEN 3, MAWHERA 1. Mawhera attacked from the commencement, for Metviick to clear his goal. Eatwell maoe a run for Cobden, but Sloss put Mawhera back on the offensive, where Quinlan appeared dangerous, until stopped by Beckman. Shortly after, Grogan netted to give Mawhera the lead. A penalty bully was awarded to Cobden, and Butler equalised to make <.ae halt time score: Mawhera 1, Cobden .1. Tne second half saw Cobden slightly superior, and, Eatwell soon put his side in front with a good goal. Perrin put in a good solo effort, only to find Mettrick safe. Long passed to Butler at half-way. and the Cobden centre-forward went through nicely to score a good goal. Wright put in some nice work on Mawhera s left, but found the Cobden defence too strong, and the game ended shortly after. Final score: Cobden 3, MaW Referees: Messrs. W. Newton and W. Heaton.

PACIFIC 5, WESLEY 2. Seguin won the opening bully to put Pacific on the offensive, but Tindale cleared well. Moore put in a good run on Wesley’s right, only to find Nailer safe in goal. Coffey sent Seguin away, on to Crase, but sticks relieved for Wesley. Another forward move by Pacific saw Seguin shoot over the goal. The whites were now pressing strongly, and Tindale made several brilliant saves. At the other end, Howell missed the net by inches. From a scramble, following a corner, Peek scored the opening goal for Wesley. Pacific attacked; and Tindale saved well, but shortly after S. Knapp equalised with a shot that gave Tindale no chance to save. Wesley took the lead again immediately, when, from a scramble in the circle, Newton netted. A corner to Pacific saw Heaton bank in a hard drive for Tindale to make a fine save. Wesley were attacking at half-time, with the score: Wesley 2, Pacific 1. On resuming, Coffey went to centreforward, and Seguin to three-quarter. Pacific attacked immediately, but sticks relieved for the blues. Crase started a good' movement on the right, for Coffey to wriggle his way through to eqalise. Coffey won the bully, and went right through to score again. Tindale saved the next movement, and Crase went close from Pacific’s right. Dixon stopped a Wesley offensive, and seht on to Coffey, who again went through to score. Pacific forwards were now going well, but Greenwood stopped a dangerous movement. A corner to Pacific saw Heaton send on to Coffey, but Tindale saved well, and Peek took play downfield, before sending on to Moore, who was stopped' by D. Knapp. S. Knapp put in some good work on the left, before centreing to Coffey, who netted his fourth goal.
