HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER

GISBORNE, June 15
A hit-and-run driver, who ran into a girl cyclist, appeared before Mr. Walton S.M., this morning. He was fined a total of fifteen pounds, and his license was cancelled Lor twelve months. The accused was a Maori, Osborne Hura, who pleaded guilty. Detective McWhirter stated that the speed of accused's car was described as terrific, while a friend, who had been in town with him on the day of the accident said the accused was so intoxicated, that he prevented his using his car, until later in the day. Counsel said that accused’s recollection of the incident was very vague, although he remembered hitting something.
