ARBITRATION COURT

HOURS EXTENSION APPLICATIONS

DUNEDIN, May 28.

It is understood that, upon the measures relating to the Factories Act and the Industrial and Conciliation and Arbitration Act, recently before the Legislature, becoming law, the Court of Arbitration proposes to hold a special sitting in Wellington to consider applications by the occupiers of factories for an extenison of the hours fixed by the Factories Amendment Act. In conjunction with such applications, it is stated the Court proposes also to hear applications under the Industrial Conciliation Act for the amendment of existing awards and industrial agreements by reducing the number of working hours to those enumerated in the statute. The special sitting of the Court is expected to be commenced in Wellington on Monday, June 22. The question of fixing the basic wage under the Industrial, Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act will, it is understood, be dealt with at a special sitting of the Court in Wellington at a later date. __
