HARRY BRIDGES
CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION
NEW YORK, May 20
The correspondent of the "New York Times” in San Francisco says that! Harry Bridges, formerly of Australia/ who is in control 6f the San Francisco maritime workers, and has been described as the “stormy petrel of the.l Pacific Coast labour world,” was instructed by the Federal naturalisation service to-day to file his first citizenship papers. Bridges made his application on May 2, declaring that he had entered the fnited States in 1920, ami had paid ills head tax. A note placed on Bridges’s application by the immigration service states that “deportation proceedings are pending,” apparently against the applicant. In reply to questions, the Immigration Commissioner, Mr. Cahill, declared that no actual deportation proceedings had been brought against Bridges. The only complaint which had been filed against him, as fre-« quently happened in other cases, was ( that he had not observed the laws, and should be deported. It was indicated that so far nothing had been found to warrant a hearing in Bridges’ case.
