THWARTED LOVE DRAMA

TWO GIRLS SHOT DEAD. Thwarted love of a member of the staff named Marcel Serte for a girl of 14 Jias caused the death of three persons at the sanatorium of St. Hilaire du Touvet, near Grenoble, France., Infuriated that his suit had been refused by the girl, Jeanne Mathieu, who was the daughter of the postmaster at the sanatorium, Marcel took refuge in drinking, and then in a fit of madness

I armed himself with three revolvers and burst into the annexe where most of tire employees lodged with their families. Wrecking everything that came in his way, he at last reached Jeanne’s : room, and at once shot her dead, as well as another girl of 18 who was with her. He also seriously injured a child, aged five, who was hiding in terror behind some furniture. Still shooting wildly, he succeeded > in wounding two more women and a , man, and then started firing out of the window. Meanwhile the mayor of the villlage, summoned by the panic-strick-
