British troops were fired on at Jenin. Tney returned the fire, killingtwo Arabs. They wounded four Arabs, who were damaging Jewish orange groves and setting fire to forests.

The Royal Air Force is searching bv air for terrorists.

Arab stone-throwers at Jaffa attacked a lorry-load of Jews from Tel Aviv. A policeman fired, killing an Arab. The angry crowd was dispersed by the police. Moslem celebrations, coinciding with Whitsuntide, have been curtailed, and the monev is being devoted to the continuance of the Arab strike. An official communique warns the strikers that tear gas will be used, if necessary. Arab newspapers throughout Pale- • stine are suspending publication for three days, during which the staffs intend to disseminate, privately, news which the Government has refused to allow them to publish.

POLICEMAN SHOT.

The first British casualty in the Palestine riots, is a policeman, Robert Bird, who was shot in the stomach at close range, while patrolling the old city.
