After forcing Mrs. Patterson to write but a cheque in favour of a certain name he gave he ordered her to ring.up .the bank .manager and instruct him to pay over the money to the person named. When she had done this he bound the women’s arms and legs, brought them the water, and wrapped blankets round them. He then disconnected the telephone wires and loft. By the time the maid raised the alarm he liad cashed the cheque,
