MELBOURNE, May 27
It is practically certain that the State Cabinet will appoint a Royal Commission to enquire into the shooting of Detective Superintendent Brophy (on May 24), and possibly into the administration of the Police Department. Ministers are dissatisfied with the conflicting stories attending Brophy’s injuries, and the attitude of Commissioner Sir Thomas Blarney.
CHURCH CO-OPERATION. SYDNEY. May 28
Voicing a strong plea for a reunion between Christian Churches and other bodies, the Archbishop of New Zealand, Doctor Averill, in the course of a sermon at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, declared it was time they all did away with recriminations, and met one another on common ground, where they could discuss matters of social and spiritual intercourse. It was a question of standing definitely for Christian principles, in private, civic and national life.
