MAN LOSES THUMB

PUPPIES’ FROLIC. BATHURST (N.S.W.), April 30. How a dog was responsible for the loss of a man’s thumb, was described before the Workers’ Compensation Commission, when Leo John Lee, station hand, claimed £225 compensation from James Phillip Johnson, grazier. Judge Lamond awarded Lee £196 17/6, together with hospital fees and medical expenses. Lee gave evidence that he had been cutting up a sheep’s head to feed the dogs on Johnson’s Wyuna Station, where he was employed. Two puppies were playing nearby, and one of them struck the axle handle, and deflected the blow, causing him to hit his thumb, which was severed.
