U.S.A. KIDNAPPERS. (PMMB ABBN. —COPYRIGHT./ WASHINGTON, May 8. Continuing a drive to round up a few remaining kidnappers still at large, Mr. Hoover announced the arrest of Harry Campbell, the reported associate of Karpis in the Bremer kidnapping; also of William Mahan, wanted for kidnapping George Weyerhaeuser. Campbell was arrested in Toledo, and Mahan in San Francisco. Mahan possesesd some seven thousand dollars, some of which was identified as ransom money. KING’S CIVIL LIST? LONDON, May 8. Labour Members again attacked the civil list on the second reading. Mr. Attlee moved an amendment stating that the House, while desirous of adequately providing for the maintenance of the Royal household and the dignity of the Crown, considered | that the revenues from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall should be surrendered in exchange for a fixed annual sum. The amendment was defeated by 202 votes to 95. The Civil List Bill passed the second reading.
MILITARY TOURNAMENT. RUGBY, May 7. The Duke of York, accompanied by the Duchess and Princess Elizabeth and her sister, opened the Royal tournament at Olympia this afternoon. It is possible, owing to the progress of mechanisation, that this'will be the last year that the famous musical drive by a battery of the Royal Horse Artillery will figure in the programme.
