WAIUTA NOTES

' [OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT. J I r rhe biennial meeting of household--1 crs was held ’in the schoolrooms on Monday evening, there being a poor attendance of householders. Mr W. J. Hall was voted to- the chair. The balance-sheet was read and adopted as satisfactory. The biennial report, which was as follows, was read by the chairman: —The committee meetings were well attended, and cordial relations existed during the whole of our term, Mr Hall at all times being an admirable chairman. During March Mr Thorpe tendered his resignation, he having left the district. 1 he Committee regret his leaving, as he was a valuable committee member. We held oui last two annual picnics o:i the Greymouth beach, and both v.cre very enjoyable trips, and young and old equally enjoyed them. We v, ish to thank the public of Waiuta for their generous response forthose picnics, also the ladies who collected on cur behalf. To them the Commitee arc most grateful for their splendid assistance. During our term we have had a new fence erected arcund the school grounds, and the manuka cleared ;nd grubbed out of the playgiound. The Dental Clinic still continues to give splendid resu.ts. and is a wonderful asset to the

school. The results of the proficiency examination were most gratifying, and Mr Llewellyn is to be most heartily congratulated on his splendid vuik. We have had two'very good school concerts. Last year’s concert

paiticularly deserves special mention. Mr Llewellyn, Miss Nimino and Miss Ivicii must have put endless work into the operetta, and it is pleasing to state that both concerts were a great success. We have also had two concert parties from Greymouth, and these concerts were run on a fifty-fifty basis with the School Committee. The school inspector’s reports were very satisfactory, and showed a marked improvement in the ’progress of the different standards. In conclusion, we wish to thank the teaching staff for the painstaking manner in which they have carried out their duties during our term of office, and also to place on record the cordial relationship that has at ail limes existed' between the teachers and the Committee. Air Hall declined nomination for a .urther term, stating that the Education Board members had visited Waiuta only once during his long term' as chairman. It would seem that the Board members were afraid to .come to Waiuta, and the members ol the Committee had had to fight for every little amount that they had from the Board. Mr D. Douglas also declined further nomination. Ho endorsed the remarks made by Mr Hall. The following were duly elected: — Mesdames W. G. Harris, A. J. Barran, and Messrs Bright and Stansbury, with one member to be elected by the Committee. At the subsequent committee meeting. Mr Bright was elected chairman and Air Stansbury as secre-tary-treasurer.
