HOKITIKA NOTES
[OUR own correspondent.] HOKITIKA, May 2. The death occurred in the Westland Hospital of Mr Neils August (Gus) Johansen, at the age of 80 years. Deceased, who was a native of Sweden, was well-known in the Kumara and Hokitika districts. He was-a bachelor. The death of another well-known resident, Mr Martin Alfred Emmett, took place at the Westland Hospital yesterday morning. He was a carpenter by occupation. For some years he resided in Hokitika but later returned to Ross. He was a native of Wellington and 65 years of age. He is survived - by a daughter—Miss Emmett of Ross.
Last night was one of the most boisterous experienced here. Fruit trees and fences suffered cousideiably. A lookout has been kept for the body of R. Thornton, but it has not vet been found. A Whippet dlub has been formed in Hokitika with the officers as foltow;—Patron J. Taylor. President H. Kortegast. Vice-Presidents, V. Hall, C. Santiers, R. Ford. Secretary and treasurer, H. L.
