A by-election in the Lewes division of Sussex will be necessitated by the succession to the peerage of Captain Loder. Conservative member, on the death of his father. Lord Wakehurst, which occurred, at the age of 74. — Official Wireless.
The death occurred, this morning, at Reefton, of Francis Kent, a native of Greymouth, aged 63 years. Deceased, who had been ailing for some time was formerly a wagon-driver on the Murray Creek road. His wife predeceased him some years ago. He is survived by two sons and two daughters. The interment will take place privately to-morrow. ••
The death took place at Palmerston North on Thursday last of Mrs. Mary Olsen (nee Wisdom) wife of Mathias Olsen, a native of Cobden, after a short illness. Besides her husband deceased ip survived by two daughters Mrs. Dowden, of Mere Mere, and Olga Olsen of Palmerston North. Mesdames M., 0. and A. McNeill, of Cobden are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Olsen left Cobden about thirty years ago, and had since resided at Palmerston North.
Numerous congratulatory messages were received by Mr. and Mrs Fiederick William Fell, of Herbert Street, Greymouth, who yesterday celebrated :he golden jubilee of their wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Fell were married at Hoiy Trinity Church, Greymouth, on May 1, 1886, by Archdeacon McLean, and’ have lived at Greymouth almost all their lives, Mr. Fell being employed as a storeman for the Public Works Department, a position from which he recently retired. Mrs. Fell is the eldest daughter of the late Mr.and Mrs. Edward Goodall, and is a sister of Hon. J. Goodall, M.L.C. She was born at Nelson in 1866, coining to Greymouth at an early age. Mr. Fell was born at Victoria, Melbourne, in 1858. Nine of their family of ten survive, and there« are twenty-two gr an d-chi 1 dren.
