REPENTANT CRIMINAL
ARRESTED AT AUCKLAND.
[per press association.] AUCKLAND, April 17. Intense activity on the part of a specially assigned squad of Auckland detectives, for more than fifteen hours to-day, culminated in the arrest of a passenger who arrived on the Matson liner Mariposa, from the United States. The man, who had been deported from America, was on his way to Australia, but he was released at Auckland by the master, Captain
Meyer, when detectives produced a special authority. The prisoner, who occupied a cabin on the ship, and travelled under the name of W. G. Henry, is known in New Zealand as Thomas William Wilson. He was sentenced at Dunedin in June, 1931, to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour and on? year’s reformative detention for burglaries and assault, and later that year he was transfererd to Mount Eden Prison. Subsequently, he was admitted to Auckland Hospital, but escaped from there on December 21, 1931.
The police declined to state the charge which is to be preferred against him.
