“JOAN OF ARC” KILLED. PARIS, February 11. Joan Valerie jLanneau, who was the model of Fremiet’s £ e n ? o f Joan of Arc, has perished I un llaiines. She died similarly to the Maid of Oi le joan he Lanneau, despite having had prosperity in her heyday i , ’seventies of last century, latteily earned only a meagre livelil io<od at dressmaking. She worked in a gailet, where an oil stove overturned, and she was incinerated, at the age eighty. DUNSANDEL SCHOOL. [per press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, February 12 Dunsandel School was burnt to the ground ‘ this evening. Though the buildibg was completely destroyed, a l of the the desks, piano, and books were saved. It is not known how the fire was caused. No fires were lighted in the school today and no one was in the school at the time. The building was of an old-fashioned type, one of three rooms, but recently the windows in front had been enlarged to make the schol of the semi-open-air type. About 40 pupils attended it. The Board is endeavouring to secure a hall for school purposes.
