Churchill (Conservative) .. 2,424 Russell Thomas (Liberal) .. 738 Majority for MacDonald 2,982 The Ross and Cromarty Division, in which the elevation of Sir lan Macpherson to the peerage caused a byelection, is the fourth largest constituency—in point of area —in the United kingdom. It covers 1,572,835 acres. The largest constituency is Inverness, with nearly 2,400,000 acres. Ross and Cromarty has, however, one of the smallest electorates, and it is getting smaller. In 1931 it was just over 30,000. In the eahlv part of last year it was 28.030. By the last election ti had shrunk to 27,754.
