Oxford University will be about - £B,OOO a year richer in future if the f governors of Christ’s Hospital mislaid - during the year a miniature set in I gold. h The miniature is of John St. Amand, J a 17th-century benefactor of the I school. When John St. Amand’s , I grandson, James St. Amand, died in 1754 ho left a house in London to Christ’s Hospital—on conditions. The chief condition was that at the first court of school governors every year a miniature of his grandfather should be produced. The miniature is kept, in the Christ’s Hospital treasury. Since the property now brings in £B,OOO a year, it must be the most precious miniature in the world. Its capitalised value is over £250,000. Under the St. Amand will the property will pass to Oxford University if the miniature is not produced at the annual meeting of the court of Christ’s Hospital.
