“RESCUER” DROWNED

DURING LIFE-SAVING PRACTICE

CAPE TOWN, January. 14.

A traffic constable, who was a heavy weight boxing champion, lost his life while* practising life-saving. Acting as the rescuer, he swam 75 yards, placed a “victim” on his back, and signalled to be hauled in. Fifty yards from the shore the rope snapped, the “rescuer” disappeared and the “victim” dived unsuccessfully for him. The body was recovered an hour later. '
