McLEAN PARK
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEET The annual meeting of the McLean Park Management Committee was held last evening. Mr. W. Hannam presiding over a good attendance. The annual report, presented by the chairman, was read and adopted as follows: — It will be noticed by the balancesheet, that we have had a successful year, although we have finished the year with a small debit balance; but when you take into consideration the expense of buying a lorry and upkeep of same I think that we have done well. During the year 1934-35, we purchased a motor lorry at a cost of £l5, towards which the Harbour Board granted us £lO. The commit-( toe have during the year top-dressed an area 100 yards square, and it is showing good signs of grass. The top of the hill has been levelled back as far as the stop bank. The toe of the hill has been rounded off, and is set in creeper plants. The merry-go-rounds, swings, see-saws and shutes are in good order, but they require a. coat of paint before the' hot weather comes on again. Owing to the excelent summer last year, the committee did well in the sale of ice cream and soft drinks. A small stall was built on the beach, and it was a convenience to bathers as well as an asset to the committee. Two gala days were held during the year—Boxing Day and Easter Monday. Although they were not quite as successful financially as in previous years, they were both enjoyed by the children and adults. Several picnics were held on the park during the year, and the committee has received letters from the organisers congratulating the committee on
the excellent arrangements on the park. A donation of fifty young trees was received, and they have been planted around the fences. Several acts of vandalism occurred, such as pulling down swings and uprooting woung trees. The committee would like the -public to show more consideration for its work and help it to make a playground for the children, and not obstruct in actions of this kind. Although the committee have done a considerable amount of work, much
more is needed before the Park becomes a first-rate playground for the children. In conclusion 1 thank all those Avho helped the committee during the year. The balance-sheet, showing a small debit balance. Avas read and adopted as satisfactory. Receipts totalled £lO2, including £5O from the sale of ice cream.
