[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

The wind-up social for 1935, of the Women’s Institute was held In the Druids’ Hall. Each member invited a friend and a pleasant evening was spent in games and competitions. The senior members staged an amusing one-act play entitled “That’s That.” The competition, carrying peas on a knife, was won by Mrs. R. Duggan, and word-building, Miss E. Burns. Mrs. R. Butterworth and Miss D. James were equal for the dozen cakes competition. Two recitations were rendered by Mrs. Colquhuon and Miss M. Shields sang “Silver Hair and Heart of Gold.” Supper was served.

At the monthly meeting of the R.S.A. Mr. Geo. Nuttall (chairman) presided. The balance sheet' was received as satisfactory. Mr. J. Williamson was elected secretary in lieu of Mr. .1. Hunt who has left the district. Mr. A. Gomme was elected to the committee and Mr. D. Nicolls was appointed auditor. Mr. D. Cochrane (Treasurer) has been discharged from hospital. It was resolved that in future the meetings be held on the first Sunday in the month. Boring operations have commenced on-what is known as the Ford Creek area. I’his area is on the bottom side of the'Argo Dredge and "those Avho know the district are much interested. The annual sports of the Blackball School were held on Wednesday and Thursday under the control of the headmaster, Mr. Kibblewhite. They were well contested, Miss Mabel Hogg being the winner of the senior championship cup for girls and Harry Jamieson won the senior championship for boys. The junior championship medal was won by Rosa Balderstpne for girls and G. Lindley won the junior championship medal.
