DEATH AT COBDEN
INQUEST AND VERDICT. An inquest concerning the death of Raymond Armstrong, which occurred suddenly at North Beach, Cobden, yesterday, was Jield at Greymouth, tol day, before the Coroner (Mr. H. Morigan). The proceedings were conducted by Constable J. A. Paddy. George Armstrong, farmer, North Beach, stated that deceased was his son. He was a farmer, 33 years of age, married, and resided at North Beach. He called at witness’s place yesterday morning, about 5.45 o’clock, and was in the cowshed, when he complained of pains in his chest. Witness' got him some hot water, which he drank, and then went to witness’s home, about 200 yards away. He. lay down on a bed, and witness remained in the room. After a few minutes, deceased had a violent pain, and rolled off the bed to the floor. He did not speak while he was on the bed. When lie j saw that his son was in a bad way, witness sent for the doctor, between | 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Life was extinct when Dr. Bird arrived. Deceased had | previously complained of indigestion, I but, so far as witness knew, he had i’ no medical treatment for it. Other-’ wise, he was always in good health. I Dr. W. A. Bird stated that he was j called to Cobden about 10 a.m. or 10.30 I a.m., to the home of George Armstrong. He found a young man lying on the’ floor of the bedroom, dead. There j were no signs diagnostic of any-1 thing. At the request of the Coroner, witness held a post-mortem examination. He found that deceased had been suffering from arterial degeneration, particularly affecting the root of the great artery, and associated with this were signs of .degeneration of the heart muscles. He came to the conclusion that deceased had died as the result of an anginal attack. There were no marks of violence on the body. Deceased died from natural causes, angina pectoris.' The Coroner stated that his finding must be in accordance with the medical evidence, that deceased died from a severe attack of angina pectoris.
