WELL PLAYED!

INGOTS wha hae and Scots wha hae not, must agree thdt the All Blacks were the better side on Saturday, and fully deserved their win. Such victory w*as expected in Nev* Zealand, but not by so great a margin, and from now on, confidence that the tourists will avert defeat will be generally maintained. Gratification with the triumph over Scotland will' be increased by the knowledge that the match, although hard-fought, maintained the best traditions of Rugby, being enjoyable to all concerned, and leaving nothing but pleasant memories to victor and vanquished alike. It is clear that the New Zealanders arc a greatly improved team now, compared v'ith a few 7, weeks ago, when Scottish teams came near to repeating Swansea's unexpected triumph.

Individual honours will not be * • stressed, seeing that it is agreed that the All Blacks won through superior combination, but it is pardonable for the West Coast to be proud that both its district representatives were, included in the Test fifteen, and that each did well. Gilbert was at his 'best, and came well through a severe ordeal. His experiences must have developed his skill, and his reappearance at the local Rugby Park, next season, will be awaited with considerable public interest. It would be unfortunate for district Rugby, were Gilbert transferred to a main centre. King, too, pleased the critics, and with Gilbert has a good chance of selection in all the international matches of the tour. For the rest, Sadler further strengthened his reputation, as did Caughey and Griffiths theirs. When all did well, it is not fair to particularise, and comment is best ended by congratulating and commending all the team on a brilliant performance, which added a bright chapter to football history, and should keep Scottish-New Zealand Rugby relations on the friendliest footing.
