Keith Rigg with a bright batting display that took him past The century in 160 minutes gave Victoria a great start to-day against the M.C.C. eleven. DISTRICT COMPETITIONS. UNITED A. BEATEN. The West Coast Cricket Association’s competition for the Wingham Cup, was continued on Saturday. The weather was beautifully fine early, but late in the day became cold and steady rain fell for about half an hour. The rain did not stop play, but seriously interfered with the bowlers. Heavy rain yesterday prevented the continuance of the Wingham Shield competition. On Saturday, United B caused a mild surprise by defeating United A. on the first innings. Highly successful bowling by G. Simmonds, who secured 7 wickets for 20 runs for the B. team, was the feature of ’the match. Marist and Cobden played an uninteresting draw at Cobden. United' A lead the principal competition with 6 points, followed by Marist with 5 points.

UNITED B'S VICTORY. In a match that was notable for low scoring, United B. defeated United A. by 17 runs on the first innings. United A. batted first, and collapsed for 54, before the bowling of Simmonds, who secured, seven wickets for 20 runs off 17 overs. Swinburn 17 was the only batsman to reach double figures, all the recognised batsmen failing. United 8., aided by Mann 27 and Peek 17, compiled 71 in their strike, Rapley taking five wickets for 26. Marist won the toss, and batted first, in their match with Cobden at Cobden, compiling 197 for 9 wickets declared. O. Morris 71 and Marshall 43 riot out, were the most successful batsmen, while D. Knapp, who secured 4 wickets for 53, was easily the most dangerous Cobden bowler. Cobden opened slowly, and lost what chance they had of winning by too-careful tactics, even when rain made the Marist bowlers’ task D. Knapp 47 not out, batted b/iglßly, for Cobden, but Edwards 55 and J. Guy 46 were slow. Cornis.h three for 31 was the most successful bowler.
