KISS WITHOUT CONSENT

“PSYCHOLOGY” CURE LONDON, October 1. An unusual course was taken by the Croydon magistrates yesterday when they placed a defendant on probation, for a year on his promising to undergo psychological treatment. :> The case was one in which Albert Rands, 47, clerk, Queen’s-road, Upper Norwood, had pleaded guilty to assaulting a. girl of 11 by kissing, her without her consent. The chairman (Mr. H. T. Muggeridge) said that the offence was committed under an impulse of sex, and that Rands could, vdth proper treatment, be cured of bad habits. Rands gave an undertaking, which was made part of his recognisances, that he would get “certain psychological treatment” by regularly attending an institution, the name of which was not disclosed. “It will cost you 5s a visit,” said Mr. Muggeridge, “and it is worth it. If you fail to go you can be brought here again and punished for this offence.”
