MONTHLY MEETING [our own correspondent.] HOKITIKA, October 12. The monthly meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last night. .Present:’ The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs. Jas. King, A. R. Elcock, H. E. Michel, T. W. Duff, G. Heinz, A. J. T. Barry, D. Teichelmann. Am apology was received for the absence of Cr. E. Park. N.Z. Refrigerating Cp„ advised that the following quantities of meat were delivered .into Hokitika during the month of September, 1935, viz., 134 sheep, 4 lambs, 1 pig. The West Coast .United Aero Club tendered thanks fqr donation of £1 1/-
E. H. Shirley, applied lor permission to .erect a builders’ hoarding along the frontage of the new Theatre. ,G. A. King, applied for domestic water service connection to Lot 2 of Section 3300, Park St., and also for a 12ft. street crossing. J. R. Taylor, Railway Hotel, wrote pointing out that hotel water supply is supplied from the Sewell Street main, and is subject to interruption, and asking -that the hotel be supplied from the Weld Street main.—The overseer to explain. ; E. W. Heenan, and .four other petitioners ,wrote (that the 6ft. iron fence at Section 7 and 245 at the corner of Beach and Gamp Streets completely Obstructs (the view of motorists, rendering, the corner dangerous to pedesparticularly children, and asking -if : the Council cojild -arrange that the owner qf the sections reduce the height of the fence to . give a proper visibility—Resolved that>the owner of the -said jfence be asked to reduce the height of the fence. The General Manager, N.Z.R. wrote advising that Railways Board will stpy at Hqkitika for lunch pn -Monday, the 21st. inst., but stay being too
limited .to permit verbal representa-
tions. The Board will be pleased to receive any .written submissions which the’ Council are prepared to present. The Hon. Secretary, Hokitika’s Festival Fortnight Committee, wrote requesting Council to grant the Committee the right to control games and side shows during the Festival, and to collect fees towards the expenses incurred Jn illuminations and decorations. —Granted, subject to the Council allocating sites for side shows. The Clerk, Westland County Council, advised that the District Engineer had applied for the final contribution of £l5O promised on account of the Hokitika Aerodrome, and asking that the balance- of the Hokitika Borough Council’s quota, viz., £5O, be now paid to -the Public Works Department, Greymouth.—Agreed to pay quota.
K. G. Coles applied for . domestic water service connection to section on Harbour reserve.—Granted on usual terms. -
Messrs Park and Murdoch, as agents for Mr E. T. Stoop, applied for consent to the subdivision of Sections 1013, 1014, 1031 and 1032, Municipal Reserve 584. —Agreed to. Messrs Park and Murdoch, as agents for G. and D. Davidson, Ltd., applied for lease of Municipal Reserve No. 488, Bealey Srteet, under Section 8, of Sub-section 7 of the Public Bodies Leases Act, 1908.—Granted. Albert Samuel Craig applied for lease of Municipal Reserve No. 587, under Section 5, Subsection (c), of the Public Bodies Leases Act, 1908. — Granted.
Tire Abattoirs Manager repotred: — Animals slaughtered during September: 24 cows, 4G heifers, 240 sheep, 5 calves, 1G pigs; condemned, 1 cow, 1 bullock, 1 sheep. Fees received £G7/10/G. For same period last year £6l/12/-. Tiro treasurer reported receipts amounting to £2814/15/11; credit at bank £736/13/5. Accounts aggregating £ll4O/8/1.0 were passed lor payment. It was agreed to increase the night soil contractor’s payment by 10 per cent.
A request, was received from F. Selby for the extension of Rolleston Street. It was decided to grant the request at a cost, of .£ll. The foreman’s report included a record of the tests being- made with the water pumping plant, at the east boundary, one bore giving up to 240 gallons per minute for the 50 hours of testing. After an informal discussion it was resolved to invite Mr. Campbell (engineer) over to consult him on the matter of erecting pumps and cost of installing them as a .standby plant in case of emergency.
