IN JAMAICA AND CUBA.

, KINGSTON (Jamaica), Sept. 27. Gales of up to 50 miles an, hour, which are feared to be the forerunner of a hurricane, swept Jamaica, uprooting banana trees estimated to number 2,000,000, which is 35 per cent, of .the colony’s crop.

NEW YORK, September 28.

The Eastern Coast of Florida to-day. waited tensely for a tropical hurricane which was reported to be sweeping northward, aftei- having caused a considerable loss of life and damage to property in Cuba and Jamaica. Early this evening, however, the Weather Bureau reports indicated that the hurricane has moved slightly eastward. Its full force probably will miss Miami arid the coastal points northward, although a storm warning has been sent out for the guidance of shipping. According to reports from Havana, an area of from 150 to 200 miles wide across that island was swept by the hurricane. Thirty are reported -to have been killed at Cienfuegos. in the Santa Clara (Province. Over 1000 homes were destroyed, and other propertv was damaged. LATER. ' All hurricane warnings were hauled down along Florida’s east coast as the tropical disturbance passed off Miami in the /Atlantic Ocean. The Jacksonville weather bureau described the disturbance as greatly diminished, but still dangerous for somd time to come as it traverses the sea.
