GREY POWER BOARD

• MONTHLY MEETING. •’ The Grey Electric Power Board I held its monthly meeting last evening. Present: Messrs W. Clayton (chairman), J. B. Kent, J. Mulcare, W. H. Parfitt, A. Robinson, J. Unit in, J. Smeaton, F. L. Turley and A. H. McKane. On the motion of Messrs Parfitt and Robinson, it was decided to make application to the Local Government Loans Board for its sanction to the borrowing of the sum of £16,000 for the purpose and construction of electric works as defined by the Electric Power Board’s Act, 1925, public notice of intention so to apply having been given on August 5, 1935. The Finance Committee reported that the revenue for July was: Town £ 1,815 1/10; country £1,622 14/7. 9he new’ debentures were now in the hands of the and would be issued as soon as they were signed and sealed. The Board’s canvasser was engaged on the Rotomanu line, obtaining guarantees for submission to the Loans Board. The Board’s loan proposals had been submitted to the Loans Board, and the decision of that body should be received after its next meeting. The Board’s rating case against the Grey County Council would probably be proceeded with in the Supreme Court on September 5. Unpaid accounts were recommended for payment, totalling £1,095 17/7 On account of the resignation of Mr. W. Dorward, Blackball, it was recommended that Mr. C. N. Cochrane be appointed, and that a letter of appreciation be sent to Mr. Dorward for his services. It was recommended, in view of the report of the engineer, that no damage had been done during Board’s occupation of the property of Mr. W. T. Green, that a claim for £2 15/- be not recognised. The resolution relating to premium loan in the minutes of meeting held July 17, ■ 1935, was rescinded and the following ’ amended resolution passed, on the ] motion of Messrs. Kent and Parfitt: • In pursuance and exercise of the pow- 1 ers vested in it in that behalf by virtue of Part II of the Local Authorities Interest Reduction and Loans Conversion Act 1932-33, and the Grey Electric Power Board Loans Conversion Order 1934, and of all other | powers and authorities enabling it in 1 that behalf, the Grey Electric Power s Board hereby resolves to borrow’ ( from the Australian Mutual Provident Society the sum of £6,700 to provide c for cash premium payments payable ( in terms of the said conversion or- j der, and for the purpose of securing , the repayment of the said sum of < £6,700, and interest thereon to create j an issue at par to the said Austra- j lian Mutual Provident Society two j new debentures of £3,300 and £3,400 f respectively, bearing interest at the < rate of £3 10/- per cent., payable i half-yearly on April 1 and October 1 1 ;n each year, such debentures to be ( redeemable at par on April 1, 1950, i and October 1, 1950 respectively.

Messrs. Vickerman and Lancaster were appointed consulting engineers for the purpose of finalising the arrangements with the Public Works Department, Lands Department, aud Loans Board, including the calling of tenders, at a fee of 3i per cent, on cost. The supervision of the raising of the dam is included in this figure. The request from the Greymouth branch of the Unemployed Union for half-rates for lighting, was declined. Although the Board realised the urgent necessity of an aerodrome at Greymouth, and despite the fact that many members were deli; nitely in favour of a grant being made, it was recommended that the Board express its regret that on account of the large demands on its cash resources during the current year, it was unable to make any contribution. The Board decided to purchase health stamps to cover postage for one month. The tender of Thos. Coll for the erection of Waiuta and Barry town lines was'left to the chairman. secretary, and engineer for acceptance, on condition that an agreement is signed covering the advance of cash by the respective companies. It was resolved that in future canvass of consumers, a note be taken of all lefusals to sign guarantees. Accounts amounting to £39 5/2 (overcharge) were written off. The question of assistance for the ladyxdemonstrator during demonstrations is to be looked into. The engineer was asked to report ou the possibility of power supply to the house of Mr. W. Richardson, Ngabere.

ENGINEER'S REPORT. The engineer reported that units generated and maximum demands for the five weeks ending August IS, were as follow: Week ending July 21, K.W.H. generated 174,900.. K.W. max. demand 1710: week ending July 2S. 175,750 and 1782; week ending August 4, 107,560 and 1674; week ending August 11. 162,990 and 1620: week ending August IS. 164,280 and 1764. Total units for five weeks. 845, 4Su. The highest weekly load factor was 60.9 and the lowest 55.2 per cent. The outside staff had been engaged about half the period connecting new consumers and on general maintenance. The deviation of the 11.000 V line at Nine Mile on the West port road, owing to sea erosion was now completed, and Mooie and Patty's co-op. mine had been connected. .Mains hud been extended on the high tension poles at Gladstone to provide for the new pipe works and a small transformer erected at Paroa to provide for new consumers there. A few chains of low tension line had also been run at Karoro to couple up new residences. The Argo dredge at Ngahere commenced operations on Tuesday. Since last meeting. 22 new applications tor supply had been received, making the total to date 3262.
