PETROL FROM PEAT
GERMAN’ SCIENTISTS' CLAIM I’otrol to be made out of peat is on ? of the latest discoveries claimed by German chemists, who are hard at work trying to make the country independent of foreign supplies. It has now definitely been proved by practical experience that a gallon of petrol can be produced from about* l llb of peat. With this petrol the performance of a motor-car is nume Jd per cent, lower than that with mineral petrol. As over 3 per cent, of Germany'? rttrfaco is peat, it is calculated that the country could produce at onc« 7.000.000 tons of this material. Kot Germany this would mean the crea tlon of a great new national industry employing thousands of men, but fot the international petrol companies tie closing' of the German market would bo an immense loss.
