GRAIN AND PRODUCE. [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, August 16. The week, like all Grand National weeks, has been exceptionally quiet in the grain and produce markets. and little business has passed. Potatoes, which continue to absorb most interest, have remained very much as they were at the eiyl of last week, and prices have altered hardly at all. The Wingatui got away for the North with a total of 8,048 sacks, 2,548 from Timaru and 5,500 from Lyttelton. The shipment was not expected to be nearly as heavy from h§re as it was thought shipments haye been substantial far a month, There appears to be no serious weakness in the Auckland market, buyers there preferring to shift potatoes as they come, rather than buy forward. The late season in the North has undoubtedly helped locally. There has been very little activity, partly because of holidays and partlv also because the market' keeps exceedingly quiet. Practically no whites are being offered, and very few Dakotas, in which the main interest of the trade seems to centre. The rest of the markets, though still quiet, have shown slight signs of reviving activity. Odd lines of oats are moving out at unchanged prices. Odd small parcels of seeds are being sold to retail trade, but there has as yet been little disposition on the part of buyers to come into the market in any strength. The late season in the North is making itself felt. It is usual at this time of the year to find keen interest in seeds, but so far interest has not materialised. BUTTER AND CHEESE.
