fOUB OWN COBBJCBPONDINT.] Three exciting games were witnessed on the Mawheraiti Domain on Sunday afternoon, by crowds of spectators, when Mawheraiti Old Boys played the girls at basketball. The players were: — Old Boys:—Forwards: J. Byrne, Neil McVicar (captain), H. Chandler, centre, J. Somerville, B. Byrne, B. Marsden: defence: C. Reiha, D. Bright, G. Palmer. Girls: —Forwards: J. McKenzie, K. McVicar, C. Leggoe: centres: J. Reiha, E. Palmer, M. Palmer: defence: M. Chandler, V. Leggoe, J. Somerville. Referee: Mrs. N. McVicar. The scores were 3/1, and C/2 in favour of the girls, and 7/4 in favour of the Old Boys. Play started and the girls, passing well to their goalies, scored the first goal. The boys were penalised time and again for running with the ball, and for tackling low. Then the boys got the ball and passed to N. McVicar. who scored a goal from the 12ft line. Again the Old Boys got the ball and quickly scored. The girls then passed the ball in great style and J. McKenzie defended by six foot. C. Reiha missed the shot at goal.. At half time the scores were 6/3. On play resuming, the girls got the ball, and C. Leggoe scored. N. McVicar was cautioned for chipping the referee. The game ended 7/4 in favour of the Old Boys. Two other games were played, the girls winning each game. Refreshments were provided by the Old Boys. It is expected that another match will take place at an early date. Mr. Hartill is at the Antonio’s Elevating sluicing claim, and has started making the pipes. Things are getting busy in the once-deserted valley.

Mr. J. Reiha is a visitor to Christchurch.

Mr. F. Alabaster has gone to work on the new bridge over the Bealey, and Mr. (Toby) Bryden has takr-n bis place on the boring plant. Another boring plant is arriving in th? district this week, in charge of Mr. B. Collins, who is boring for the Consolidated Co.
