In a written Parliamentary reply the Minister of Transport stated he had already approved schemes for road improvement to be put in hand during the current financial year at a cost of over nine’million pounds, compared with the figure for the corresponding period of last year of four million. There is general expectation that when the Ministry of Labour unemployment figures for July are issued next week, they will show that the total number of unemployed is down below the two million mark. It is understood that the decision was due to the desire to outwit the “stags.” As the . loan isessentially suitable for large investors no hardship was entailed on small applicants. • . There is much activity in NewSouth Wales three per cents, pre-con-version, due to the anticipation of heavy subscription, recent buyers desiring to ensure conversion rights.
