TENNIS
AUSTRALIA WINS “TEST” [by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, July 20. At the Eastbourne tennis tourney, Crawford defeated Austin 6/2, 6/4, 3/6, 6/3. In the game Perry versus McGrath the scores were 2/6, 6/2, 3/1. The play was abandoned on account of rain. . . Full of confidence, after defeating Perry, Crawford against Austin drove deeply and powerfully, served well, volleyed more often than usual, and altogether overshadowed the Englishman. Perry was stylish, but played a virile game. Perry and McGrath fought at a great pace. McGrath in the first set hammered his backhand drives straight down the line with remarkable accuracy, ‘but Perry, intensifying his boisterous belligerance, overwhelmingly won the second. DAVIS CUP MATCH LONDON, July 20. At Wimbledon in the Davis Cup interzone final, Budge (U.S.A.) defeated Henkel (Germany) 7/5, 11/9, 6/8, 6/1. It was rather a tame encounter, Henkel playing a defensive game throughout. Budge made many errors through impatience. Rain caused a postponement of the Cramm v. Allison match. MALFROX’S WIN LONDON, July 20. At Frinton in the men’s singles final, Malfroy (N.Z.) defeated Nishimura 6/2, 8/6.
