AUSTRALIA WINS DOUBLES TURNBULL IN FORM [SY CABLE —PBEBB ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Received July 20, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 19. At Eastbourne, in the England v. Australia match, the doubles resulted: Quist and Turnbull defeated Hughes and Tuckey 3/6, 6/3, 8/6, 6/4. Turnbull was the best of the four. He served and smashed with savage accuracy. The Australians generally were superior in volleying and smashing. Tuckey, England’s new Davis Cup recruit, is playing much better with experience. He is serving powerfully, and his ground strokes have improved. PERRY-CRAWFORD DUEL. LONDON, July 19. Wallis Myers, in the “Telegraph” writes: The Eastbourne form does not mean that Perry will play the same at Wimbledon. . The best of Perry emerges on the right day. Nevertheless Crawford staged a game which even the best of Perry would have had difficulty in subduing. It was the Crawford of our dreams. AUSTRALIAN PROFITS. LONDON, July 19. Harry Hopman, writing in the “Sun,” on tennis subjects, says: The Australians’ tour has been a financial success. The profits, without Eastbourne. where most seats are sold, should approach £2OOO. The New Zealand Davis Cup tie yielded £lOO. The French £2500 and the German £9OO.
