DISCIPLINE TEST
SUBMARINE CREW’S DIVE. PARIS, April 27. What is described as a remarkable instance of discipline is reported by the “Matin” to have been shown by the crew of an unnamed French submarine. While exercising, the submarine submerged to a depth of 70ft, and then sustained damage, which prevented it from rising. After 12 hours of anxious toil the crew succeeded in getting the vessel to the surface. The second in command then said he thought the crew had conducted themselves admirably. The commander replied: “Yes, indeed. So admirably that I expect to see more of it. Prepare to plunge.” I
The submarine immediately dived again, and came up without any difficulty.—Central News.
