A remarkable flying record was established by an ordinary three-engined Junkers passenger machine, which journeyed from Cairo to Berlin, a distance of two thousand miles, in 21 hours, including landings at Athens, Budapest, and Bremen. It covered the seven hundred miles from Cairo to Athens in four hours. IMPERIAL AIRWAYS. LONDON, June 16. The “Sketch” says that over a million pounds is being spent during the next two years, in equipping the England-Australia air route- for continuous night and day flying, m preparation for the 1937. speeding up ot the scheme. - . Work has commenced at Karachi, where an enormous floodlight is being erected on a steel tower. It will light an area of ten thousand square yards, equal to daylight. Karachi will also have a beacon visible toi a hundred miles. Electric boundary lights will facilitate landing. Similar plans are being prepared at Allahabad, Calcutta. and Rangoon. The chain of aerodromes in Siam will be increased.

MISHAPS TO AUTO-GYROS.

(Recd. June 17, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 17

By a strange coincidence, two similar accidents happened to auto-gyros yesterday in Sydney and Melbourne. In a strong, gusty wind at the Mascot. Aerodrome, a new auto-gyro overturned on landing, smashing the rotor. The pilot was uninjured. A strong gust of wind struck an auto-gyro at Essendon Aerodrome, overturning it, and smashing the rotor. The machine was at rest at the time. The pilot was unhurt.
