DOMINION STATUS. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, May 31. In the House of Commons, the Labour members on the final day on the report stage of the India Bill, demanded a .categorical affirmation’ of Dominion status in the preamble. Sir T. Inskip, in reffiy, pointed out that instructions to the Viceroy laid down as the goal of India’s attainment “her due place among the Dominions.” Conditaions in India were not quite the same as in other Dominions. Her external affairs could not be provided for in the same way, but, by taking advantage of powers and responsibilities under the Bill, she would obtain a due and proper place. The amendment was defeated by 176 votes to 37.
