REFUSAL OF DUTY. [PEE PEEBB ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, May 30. Thirty-three members of the crew of the Hurunui appeared at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, charged with continued wilful neglect of duty: During rough weather, in the Atlantic, the men’s quarters were flooded, and their clothing and effects were, damaged. The then had de- ' manded £lO a-piece compensation, or otherwise they declined to take the ship to sea. The company said its counsel had assured them that individual claims would receive a sympathetic heading when the ship reached Home. The English Union advised the men to return to work, but they disregarded the advice. For the defence, it was stated that the men regarded the ship as unseaworthy.

The Magistrate convicted the men, and adjourned the Court till the morning to give a further opportunity for their coming to an agreement with the company.
