Miss M. Beban returned yesterday, from Wellington. Mr. G. Bernhard, of the Railways department, Petone, is on a visit to his mother, "Mrs. A. L. Bernhard, Ngahere.

The funeral of the late Johnstone McKenzie took place, this morning, at Karoro Cemetery, Rev. .H. R. Fell conducting the service.

A London cablegram announced the death of Carlton Dawe, novelist, who had travelled four times round the world.

Miss Mavis Burgoyne, judge of the national and fancy dancing at the New Zealand National Eisteddfod, at Wellington, returned yesterday, to Greymouth.

Mr and Mrs Bert Ashby, of Kaiapoi, who have been on a motor tour of the West Coast, are the guests of Mr and Mrs George Ashby. They will leave for their home, to-morrow.

Consequent on his appointment as Managing-Director of the Mortgage Corporation, Mr A. D. Park is relinquishing his position as Secretary to the Treasury and Financial Adviser to the Government. He takes up ; his new duties on July 1. —Press Assn.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary Gifford took place, this afternoon, at Karoro cemetery. Rev. Father T. McKeon celebrated Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s church, and Rev. Father Gregory conducted the service at the graveside.

Word has been received of the death of Leslie George Wylde, at his residence Hray-or>!-Thame» r England. Deceased, who was the eldest son pf Mi’ and Mrs G. R. Wylde of Greymouth, left New Zealand with the Main Body in 1914, took part in the landing at Gallipoli, and went through the campaign till the action at Suvla Bay, where he was wounded, and lost a leg. Since then he has.lived, in England. He is survived by a wife and son, his parents and two sisters, Mrs F. A. Kitchingham, and Mrs W. B. Cunningham, and two brothers, Messrs S. R. and H. E. Wylde.
