£700 STRAPPED TO LEG
REVEALED BY ACCIDENT

When an old tally woman named Annie Baker, of Portland-road, Bayswater, who was born in Lithuania, fell and hurt her arm, she was taken to hospital, and nearly £7OO in notes and gold was found in a bag strapped to her leg. , The fact was disclosed tn the King .5 Bench Division yesterday, when she sued her son Joe, a bookmaker, of Wellingford-avenue, North Kensington, for the return of this money, which, she said she handed over to him in the hospital to mind. _ __ Her counsel, Mr. Neville Laski, K.C., said she also gave Joe the keys of her room and told him she had £4OO in £1 notes hidden in a costume-coat m her wardrobe, as well as £5 in coppers in a sugar bag. . While she was in hospital, Mrs. Baker alleged, her son took all he: - furniture and household goods, to the value of £327. He had retained all the money and property, with the exception of the £5 worth of coppers, winch he gave back 'to her. She also asked foi the return of these goods and damages for their detention. The son’s ease was that all he was given was £632/14/-, which he was willing to return on a proper icceipt. After defendant had given evidence, Mr Justice Lawrence suggested a settlement, and the case was adjourned.
