REEFTON, May 30.
Mrs. W. J. Duff presided at the monthly meeting of the Reefton Branch of the Women’s Institute. Mesdames Wicken and Rollerson were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for conducting a euchre party for the Rest Room fund.
Mrs. Hampson w r as appointed Branch delegate for the Dominion Conference. Occasion was taken to say farewell to Mrs. W. Bell who is leaving the dis-j trict. Mrs. Stevenson demonstrated the art of bandaging. The competition for. the best plate of toffee was won by Mrs. Williams with Mrs. McElwee second. Amongst an interesting display of antiques, one member exhibited a Bible nearly 400 years old. Mrs. Auld won the competition for the prettiest coat-hanger, with Mrs. Archer second. Members’ roll call “A Funny Story” brought forth many new tales and broad smiles. Miss I. Mclntosh is spending a holiday in Reefton. Mr. J. Crossman presided at the weekly meeting of the Inangahua Rugby Sub-Union. Present: A. G. Reid, L. Austin, F. J. Malley, A. Bradley, Father Heavey, C. Barnett, 11. Kearns. It was resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to the Leggoe family in their recent bereavement. Mr. A. Palmer was appointed manager of the team to visit Greymouth on June 3.

The fortnightly sitting of the Warden’s Court was held at Reefton. today. Mr. H. Morgan presided as Warden. The following applications were dealt with: —

JWillis, extension of time for hearing application No. 313 for mineral license over a coal lease.—Granted. At the fortnightly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, Mr. H. Morgan, S.M., presiding, in J. McElwee and .Sons, v. H. J. Chandler, judgment was given for plaintiffs by default for £9 2/7, costs 17/-, solicitors fee 15/-. Francis Lawry was charged with (1) selling milk containing less than the required amount of milk-fat; and (2) selling milk containing less than the required amount of milk-solids other than milk-fat. On the first charge he was convicted and ordered to pay costs £2/17/-. On the second charge he was convicted without penalty. For riding bicycles without lamps 'after
dark, Alfred Hendrickson and Jack Wildcrmoth were* each convicted and Jined 5/-, with costs 10/-. William Cecil Pennington, for failing to signal when driving a motor-vehicle before turning a corner, was lined £2, with costs 10/-. Cecil Stanley McMaster, while driving his motor-cycle, for trying to pass another vehicle at a street I intei’Tsection, was fined £2, costs 10/-. Jack Mervyn Gaul, for using an un1 registered motor-vehicle on a road, was fined 30/-, costs 16/9. Gordon Richard Ronchi for permitting the use of an unregistered motor-vehicle on a road, was fined 30/-, costs 10/-. Sydney Robert Bannan was charged with negligent driving of a motorvehicle at Mawheraiti on May 9.—Case dismissed. William George Chandler was charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place.—Case dismissed. James Eckley Etheredge, charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place, was fined 10/-, costs 10/-.
