WESTRALIAN SECESSION
DELEGATION’S APPEAL
(BY CABLE —PEEBB ABRW.—OOPYBXGHT.J (Received May 30, 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 29. The secession delegation has issued a statement, expressing disappointment at the Select Committee’s report, and fears that its adoption will occasion some resentment in Western Australia. The only inference therefrom is that no matter what injury or injustice is inflicted, or what redress is attempted, no action can be taken by the Imperial Parliament. The delegation is prepared to demonstrate that the injuries are not the natural consequences of the entry into the Federation, but Federal abuses of the constitution, the final consequences of which will be the impoverishment of many western Australian industries, the destruction of prosperity, and impediment to the State’s development. Western Australia’s plea was that the- Commonwealth violation of the 1900 Act destroyed her sovereign rights. “We strongly feel that Parliament should not adopt the report, but should at least receive the petition and investigate the serious indictments against the Commonwealth, otherwise any future action must be decided by the Western Australian people.
