MR. FORBES’ SPEECH.
(Press Assn. —Copyright.) LONDON, May 26. Addressing a distinguished gathering of one thousand guests at an Empire Day Jubilee banquet, in a vast underground hall at Grosvenor House, Mr G. W. Forbes, before extolling Britain’s heritage, said: “I am not attempting to sell butter or cheese tonight, nor to give any figures. I don t want to say what we have done, but to show appreciation for what you done.” Sir J. Parr and Mr. J. G. Coates were present. . The “Sunday Express” prominently displays a long article by Mr G W. Forbes, on the editorial page, dealing with Empire trade. It specially stresses New Zealand’s purchases from Britain. HEAT WAVE VICTIMS. MADRAS, May 26. There have been many deaths from heatstroke in many districts around Madras. The temperature was up to 122 in tho shade, the highest for years. _
